Marvel has made it tradition for the audience to expect some bonus footage during and after the credits roll in mega blockbuster films. Their mid and post credit scenes have ranged from quick, harmless jokes to setting up the larger universe and just about everything in between. The Russo Brothers recently mentioned that we could see more post credit scenes than normal, which got me thinking. What are some of the post credit scenes I want to see following Captain America: Civil War?
With 13 dates set and ten of them having movies attached, there are plenty of interesting and exciting possibilities. Before I get to the list of what I want to see, there are a few that I want to see but did not quite make the cut. Notably, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is missing from the list. This is not because I do not want to see anything from the movie, in fact I very much do, but when Civil War ends I’m not sure how one would fit in with the tone. Anyways, here are 5 post credit scenes we want at the end of Captain America: Civil War.
Doctor Strange Scene
Including Doctor Strange in the post credits is a no-brainer in my eyes. After the internet exploded with excitement over the recent set photos of Mads Mikkelsen and others, Marvel needs to strike while the iron is hot with Doctor Strange. The recent first teaser trailer gave us our first look, but I want something a little different. The way the scene plays out in my mind is Tilda Swinton sitting in her Ancient One gown meditating, when Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) walks in to tell her they have a visitor. We pan over to see Benedict Cumberbatch as a wounded and tired traveler and that’s it. I would also be happy with a quick scene showing Cumberbatch use magic for the first time, even if it is minimal. I imagine it playing similarly to Scarlet Witch’s introduction, but with a lot less crazy.
Hulk Crash Landing
It is safe to assume that the majority of people watching Civil War also saw Avengers: Age of Ultron and are wondering what the heck happened to Hulk. If you have been following the news, you know he’ll be appearing in Thor: Ragnarok. Marvel has yet to officially announce this yet, but what better way to do that then with a post credit scene showing Hulk crash landing on the planet that he and Thor will reportedly dual in. It could be something as simple as showing a crashed quinjet, Hulk laying unconscious and then an army of aliens surrounding him. Then in classic Marvel fashion they say, “Hulk will return in Thor: Ragnarok” finally confirming what has long been reported and generating excitement as it nears to start production.
Captain Marvel’s Debut
With Avengers: Infinity War starting production at the end of the year, Marvel should be nearing an agreement with their choice of the actress that will be playing her. Joss Whedon and Marvel had planned to introduce us to Carol Danvers last year, but wanted to give her a better debut. If I have things my way, either Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, or Brie Larson get the part, and if Marvel has already signed on an actress, getting a quick cameo appearance would be all sorts of awesome. If not, getting the smallest of Easter eggs referencing her would also do the trick. We know Captain Marvel is coming, but it is time for the rest of the world to know as well.
The word on the street from early screenings is that Tom Holland is a great, if not the best, Spider-Man we have seen to date. Even though we do not know where the film will leave Spider-Man, if he is as good people say then anything extra with him will probably make most of us pretty happy. Only Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and Zendaya have been said to join the cast so fleshing out the rest of the world would be nice to see in any fashion. Basically all I’m saying is the more Spider-Man the better.
New Captain America
If Captain America: Civil War follows the lines of the comics, this could mean the end of Chris Evans‘ portrayal of Steve Rogers. If that happens, the MCU and the Avengers will be left with one of their most recognizable heroes off the shelf, which means somebody should pick up the mantle. Between Bucky, Falcon, and even Sharon Carter, there are plenty of possibilities for the new person to embody the shield. Should the events play out like this, Sebastian Stan getting called up to the big leagues seems like the most likely, but I’d also love Anthony Mackie as Falcon to get a shot. Whoever it is, all we need is the character in their new costume and picking up the shield, that would do it for me at least.
There are plenty of other ideas running through my head that would make for fun and exciting post credit scenes, like Black Panther returning to Wakanda, Zemo forming the Thunderbolts, Ross experimenting with super soldier serum, Wasp suiting up, and may more, but these are the ones that I think would feel in place after Civil War. I’m sure none of these will be right and Marvel has already come up with way better ones, but who knows. Tell us your thoughts on these post credit scenes as well as what other possibilities you’d like to see in the comments below!
