Today is the season three finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and while we wait to find out who is going to be the one to die in the final moments, we have some new information on what lies ahead for the series. The series got an early than expected renewal for a fourth season, which means today’s ABC Upfronts were not likely to have big news for the show. Last year they teased the formation of the Secret Warriors, but two years ago they announced not only that Mockingbird would join the series but also that it was moving to the 9 PM slot on Tuesdays.
After two seasons of that slot, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is moving time slots again. ABC announced the 2016 Fall Lineup today and Zap2It has revealed that the show will now air at 10 PM when it returns. This is an interesting and somewhat troubling change. The series has always had comedy shows be the lead in, but now it will follow two hours of family aimed comedy shows.
When the show got an early renewal, it seemed to be a vote of confidence but now I am not sure. The series has always struggled with having high ratings and moving it back an hour probably will not help that. However, if there is one bright spot to come out of this, the new slot should allow for an even more mature approach to the show.
Channing Dungey says moving #AgentsofSHIELD to 10pm will allow Marvel to take more creative creative risks and try darker material.

The last two seasons have continued to have a more mature feel, but now it could go even further down that path. I am very interested to see how season 4 feels when it premieres in the fall and how the new time will allow them to deal with tonight’s death. Let us know what you think of the time change in the comments below!
The two hour season 3 finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs tonight at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
