If you watched last week’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., titled “Meet the New Boss“, chances are you’re already well aware that the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. is none other than Jeffry “Patriot” Mace. While they never officially announced his full name during the episode, thanks to closed captioning, we learned that Jason O’Mara‘s mysterious character was, in fact, Mace. But this being S.H.I.E.L.D. and a Marvel production, they’re only now confirming the identity of O’Mara’s character courtesy of a quote provided to the folks over at Entertainment Weekly.
“We are excited to have the Patriot joining our show, a character who has existed in Marvel Comics for 70 years,” executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen tell EW. “Jason O’Mara brings a perfect balance of charm, mystery, heroism and humor.”
If you want a better idea of how the show could go about using a character like the Patriot, be sure to check out Butch’s From Comics to Cinema post from last week. He not only took the time to break down just who the character is, but also how the writers could make the best use of a character like him in a present day series like S.H.I.E.L.D..
And if you’re looking for a tiny bit more S.H.I.E.L.D. goodness, the official S.H.I.E.L.D. Twitter posted the below poster teasing a team up between Daisy “Quake” Johnson (Chloe Bennet) and Robbie “Ghost Rider” Reyes (Gabriel Luna).
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays on ABC.
