Now, take this with a huge grain of salt, as I’m not familiar with Nerd Reactor, and the ratings for the second season for Agent Carter were in definite cancellation territory. With that said, there’s a new report suggesting that – to everyone’s surprise – Agent Carter will be renewed for a third season. What’s strange about this report is that ABC announced fifteen renewals yesterday, which included a season four pick-up of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but they left out news regarding the shows that were considered “bubble” shows by the trades. (These are known as shows that stand a chance at being cancelled; in Agent Carter‘s case, nearly all of the trades expect a cancellation order for the low performing series.)

Here is what Nerd Reactor is reporting:

However, we have some good news. A source within the studio has revealed to us that ABC has decided to stick with the show and will be renewing Agent Carter for season three. Marvel hasn’t made the official announcement yet, but it has revealed that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been renewed for season four.

The only way I can see this happening is if the network finally decides to put the first two seasons of the series on Netflix, with the hopes of reaching a larger audience. Something they should have done at the end of season one. This is a method that has not only worked for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a show that does just fine in the Live+7 day ratings, but also for shows like Breaking Bad and Downton Abbey.

With ABC having various shows on the “bubble”, including shows with far higher ratings than Agent Carter, it’s hard not to be surprised by this report. However, unlike S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter is a mid-season series, so it’s possible ABC views it differently. For now, it’s best to take this as a rumor.
