With his fantastic debut in the recently released Captain America: Civil War, fans have been eagerly awaiting more news concerning the upcoming Black Panther solo film, which is slated for a February 2018 release. We already know that Ryan Coogler, who has written and directed both Fruitvale Station and Creed, will direct the upcoming feature, and Chadwick Boseman will reprise his role as the titular character. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has also teased that fans can expect more casting news to hit over the next few months as production is set to kick off in early 2017, so it isn’t too surprising that the folks over at The Hollywood Reporter are hearing that actress Lupita Nyong’o is in talks for an undisclosed role in the upcoming film.

Lupita Nyong’o, who won an Oscar for her performance in 12 years a Slave, is in negotiations to star opposite Chadwick Boseman in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther.

N’yongo’s character has not been revealed although she will be the Panther’s love interest.

Panther has a February 2, 2018 release date with production aiming to start in early 2017.

Interestingly enough, it was revealed that Nyong’o was apparently being eyed to join Thor: Ragnarok originally before that role went to Tessa Thompson, so it’s obvious that Marvel has had their eye on the actress for awhile now. It’s also worth noting that Nyong’o has built a relationship with Disney, having appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Jungle Book, and she’s set to headline The Queen of Katwe later this year.

With THR reporting that the actress is in talks to be the love interest, we know that she (unfortunately) won’t be playing Shuri. Who are your guesses as to who Nyong’o could be playing? Sound off in the comments below!

Black Panther is set to hit movie theaters on February 2nd, 2018.
