Last time Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. aired a new episode, it did not end very well for Grant Ward. From a character standpoint, he has been through the most changes of any person throughout the first two and half seasons. As they look to close out the third season, Brett Dalton will have a new challenge ahead of him. Playing the oldest Inhuman that is currently living inside Ward’s body.

The new “Ward” was briefly shown in the first promo for the upcoming episode. Dalton has previously discussed the events of the mid-season finale, and now EW was able to get him to talk about just who this character is.

This is a new version of Ward. The Ward that we know and love is not there anymore. He’s going to be a little different. He’s inhabited by another creature which has existed for centuries on this other world called Maveth. There have been monuments that have been built in his honor. He has access to all of the thoughts and memories that Ward had.

I am very curious how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D will handle this new version and what kind of role he will have. Being that creature inside of him is an ancient Inhuman and an inspiration for Hydra, there should be plenty of interesting and surprising stories to come out of this.

Episode 11 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., “Bouncing Back”, will air on March 8 at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
