We’re only three episodes away from the mid-season finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s third season, and if there’s one thing fans should expect at this point, it’s to expect the unexpected. During season two’s mid-season finale, we saw Skye (Chloe Bennet) begin her transformation into Daisy “Quake” Johnson as she underwent the Terrigen Mist, and as if that wasn’t enough, we saw Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) get pulled away by the mysterious monolith during the season finale, transported onto an alien planet. So it’s no surprise that season three looks to have just as many surprises in store for fans.
During a recent interview with IGN, Brett Dalton (Grant Ward) talked about the upcoming mid-season finale, what we can expect, and the relationship between Ward and Gideon Malick (Powers Boothe).
If you’ll recall, in the last episode, we saw there was a phone conversation between Gideon and Ward, where Gideon talks about Ward using Von Strucker’s son as a pawn in his game. But Dalton was quick to comment that, the main difference between Ward & Gideon is that while Gideon, who is a part of the older Hydra, thinks in moves with a bigger picture in mind, Ward is focused on a single goal.
He also goes on to tease the possibility of his character being an established Marvel character, something fans have been speculating for some time now. Dalton manages to play coy about the subject, only going on to indicate a big surprise coming during the mid-season finale – one along the lines of the Captain America: The Winter Soldier twist from season one.
“There’s something very special about what we’re doing right now that I think is going to drop a bomb on people like what we did with The Winter Soldier.”
What do you think is going to happen during the season three mid-season finale? Do you think Ward is an established Marvel character, and if so, which one? Sound off in the comments below!
