While the United States and other domestic areas wait to see Captain America: Civil War, the film was released overseas yesterday and has started taking in the money for Marvel. As we previously reported, the movie is set to dominate the box office over the course of the next few weeks. With the film officially out in select markets, the figures are coming in and it is an early success.
According to the numbers released by Box Office Mojo, the film opened to $14.9 million on its first day of release. The top market was South Korea thanks to a $4.3 million opening day. France brought in $2.4 million as well, with Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Thailand each bringing in over $1 million. These were not the only countries to see the film, but this is all the data that has been released to this point.
