Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War and the upcoming (and soon to be renamed) Avengers: Infinity War films, spoke at the Smithsonian Institute last night as part of their promo tour for Captain America: Civil War. While much of what they’ve had to say during their press junkets and interviews has been talking in circles, they may finally have let a bit of new information slip last night when they mentioned Captain Marvel in association with Avengers: Infinity War.
Fans were quick to pick up on the slip, asking the brothers to clarify, but the pair were just as quick on their feet responding “Um….Captain Barvel. Totally different character.” While many of us have long speculated that we’d see Carol Danvers pop up in these films, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently said they’d be “holding on” to Danvers until her own film. However, he’s also repeatedly confirmed that an actress would be cast in the role by the end of this summer, leading to speculation that the actress would actually debut in Avengers: Infinity War, which begins filming this fall. Of course they are producing 2 films this fall, so there’s no guarantee that just because an actress is on set filming this fall that she will be appearing in the first film, but it’s the first time we’ve heard something about Captain Marvel from the directors.
Rumors have been flying recently about Marvel Studios closing on a deal with both an actress and director for Captain Marvel, and typically when rumors are flying and as many people are chasing the story as there are currently, it isn’t long before something shakes loose. We’ll keep you updated on all things Captain Marvel and Avengers: Infinity War as they develop.
