While much of the focus as of late has been on Doctor Strange, with the film set to finally hit the big screen next month, it’s easy to forget that filming is still ongoing for the third Thor installment, Thor: Ragnarok. That film, which has been in production since July, is sure to be full of plenty of surprises – including a possible Doctor Strange tease – but the one thing most fans are excited about is the debut of Cate Blanchett‘s Hela. Although we’ve seen plenty of teases from other actors involved in the project, such as Karl Urban’s shaved head for Skurge and Mark Ruffalo’s behind the scenes Instagram posts, there hasn’t been really revealed in regards to Blanchett’s role outside of an image alongside her stunt double, Zoe Bell.
During a recent sit down with the folks over at Entertainment Weekly, the actress briefly opened up on what it was like to work on the project, as well as her love for director Taika Waititi.
Prior to any sort of confirmation that Blanchett had, in fact, joined the cast of Ragnarok, Ruffalo spent a good amount of time talking up the actress and her role in the film. Interestingly enough, while Ruffalo had plenty to say regarding Hela and her role in Ragnarok, it appears the two actors didn’t really work alongside each other that much. In fact, unsurprisingly, Blanchett reveals most of her time was spent working alongside Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth. Still, Blanchett revealed she had “fantastic fun” on the film and loved working with Waititi.
Co-star Mark Ruffalo has described your character, Hela, as “the worst of the worst.”
Did he say that? Well, he’s the greenest of the green! I didn’t get to work so much with Mark, unfortunately. But I did get to work with Chris [Hemsworth] and talk about delightful! He’s just absolutely fabulous. The whole thing was just a riot and fantastic fun. Did you see [director] Taika Waititi’s film, Hunt for the Wilderpeople? Or, What We Do in the Shadows? He’s just got such a sure hand. He’s wonderful — I’d eat him for breakfast if I could. He’s absolutely delicious. And he’s irreverent which is great because Marvel, at its best, has its tongue firmly in its cheek.
Filming on Ragnarok should wrap up within the next month, giving Hemsworth a bit of a break before he begins filming Avengers: Infinity War in January. The film, which will see the return of Hemsworth as Thor, Ruffalo as the Hulk, and Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki, is set to hit the big screen on November 3rd, 2017.
