Over the weekend, the casts for both Daredevil and Jessica Jones were on hand at the TCAs for the Netflix panel where they divulged a few interesting tidbits about both shows before doing separate interviews for various trades. Given that Luke Cage is still in production – and from the looks of it, nearing the end as they were recently photographed filming the 9th episode – the streaming service didn’t hold a panel with the cast. However, series star Mike Colter, who was on hand for the Jessica Jones panel, did take some time to speak with the folks at IGN and reveal some information that should make fans excited.
When it was announced that Rosario Dawson, who first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Claire Temple in the first season of Daredevil, would return for season two and more, many expected her to be the Nicky Fury of the Netflix shows. She made a quick appearance in Jessica Jones near the end of that show’s first season, and she has since been confirmed to appear in Luke Cage. From the looks of it, both by the set photos, as well as the casting of her mother, it began to look as though Dawson’s role in the third series would be much larger than it’d been prior to now. And now, thanks to Colter, we know that to be the case as he recently told IGN that Claire will play a “significant” role in the series.
When asked how much viewers will be seeing Claire in the new show, Colter said, “She’s going to serve a very significant part of the Luke Cage story. Not overwhelmingly so, but you will definitely be satisfied with the amount of screen time you see. … I can’t speak to episode count, but you’re definitely going to see her. She’s definitely going to be someone that’s going to have a large story-line and help out a lot.”
Colter also went on to the difference in Luke’s relationship with Claire, to the one she shares with Matt.
“Luke Cage does take place up town. It’s a different backdrop. How they get her uptown will be very unique, and you’ll see it makes sense,” he told IGN and a small group of reporters at 2016 winter Television Critics Association press tour. “It’s seamless. We’re in the same city. She knows of me, obviously, from a personal standpoint, but it’ll be interesting to see because she will deal with me in a different way than she dealt with Matt Murdock. Matt Murdock’s character’s completely different from mine.
With Colter stating that she’ll serve a large part of the Luke Cage story, while also sharing a different kind of relationship with him than Matt, it’ll be interesting to see what becomes of that, especially given that Claire and Luke did have a relationship in the comics.
