This fall, Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, **and **Finn Jones will bring their super-hero counterparts together to film The Defenders. This power-house of a show will see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist band together as street level heroes protecting New York City in the highly anticipated mini-series.
Very little is known about The Defenders at this time, just that it will start filming late in 2016. While talking with Empire Online, Cox explained a little bit about why season two of Daredevil was necessary before his character would be ready for a team-up show like The Defenders.
“He can’t do this alone,” Cox stressed of Murdock’s season two arc. “He’s been so adamant about being a lone wolf, about doing it himself, so I think that in order for him to get to The Defenders we needed this second season. We needed to see him be broken individually so that he can – he’s willing to form a team.”
Matt Murdock has always been a fiercely independent character. But in the second season of Daredevil he learned the value of working with others, and the limits of what he can do on his own. Cox summarized the results very simply.
“The lesson that Matt has had to learn in the second season of Daredevil is that he needs help.”
None of the characters on The Defenders seem like the type to follow direction from one person, but they do all seem like team players who would be willing to work toward a common goal. It will make sense for Murdock to bring the characters together, his way with words convincing them that the need was big enough. We still don’t know what that need is, but if Murdock is initiating the team-up, it leads to the belief that it may be a larger battle with The Hand.
