In the wake of the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, an enormous amount of information about the film, its sequel and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become available. While sometimes we end up getting little info from these types of interviews, Dave Bautista seemed to have quite a bit to say during a recent Talk Is Jericho podcast.

While talking with host and wrestling pal Chris Jericho, Bautista hit on several MCU-related topics, including his role in 2018’s mega-event, Avengers: Infinity War. Bautista has already filmed Drax’s scenes for the crossover and indicated that while all the characters we can expect to be there will definitely show up, we might just be able to look forward to some unexpected newcomers as well.

Those are the prominent Avengers that have been in all the films, but they’re really just adding so many characters in this. ‘Cuz they’re also starting to introduce other characters like they did in Captain America [Civil War]. They’ve brought in Spider-Man. But they’re going to start moving into different phases of Marvel. So they’re introducing other characters. Black Panther. They’re gonna go a whole series of Black Panther.

Bautista’s example of how new characters were sewn into the story of Captain America: Civil War is an interesting one as a near unprecedented secrecy has surrounded the production of Infinity War. Outside of a rumor indicating that Peter Dinklage had joined the cast back in January and members of Thanos’ Black Order potentially invading Earth, with only Terry Notary being known at this time, we haven’t seen anything concrete on additional cast. Could Drax be hinting at the inclusion of Brie Larson debuting as Captain Marvel in the film? Could there be other characters, maybe more closely-related to Drax, making their debut? At this point we may need be waiting some time to find out.

Thanks to Bautista, there is one thing about the film we won’t have to wait any longer to find out: Drax will indeed cross paths with legendary smart ass Tony Stark. When asked by Jericho if he shared the screen with Robert Downey Jr., a hesitant Bautista finally confirmed that his wish to see the two characters interact will happen. With Drax’s developing sense of irony and figurative language, the dialogue between the two will certainly provide an opportunity for some much-needed comic relief in what could otherwise be a very intense film.

Speaking of co-stars, there’s a good chance that Bautista may have filmed some scenes alongside Holland during the film. While discussing the young star and his upcoming solo film, Bautista dropped a very interesting nugget about the future of the MCU:

Spider-Man is the one I’m really looking forward to. I love that kid – I love Tom Holland. I also love that they’re staying so true to the comics with this whole series and I think that’s because Marvel Studios has gotten involved. I think before, I think it was Sony who had control. And I think they’re doing a partnership now, but I think they will – I don’t know this for sure – but I think they’re going to re-acquire Spider-Man.

Could Bautista know something we don’t? I don’t know how much of the behind the scenes stuff the actors are involved with, but it’s certainly interesting in as far as it aligns with some fan theories that have made the rounds and in light of the concerns over the future of the Marvel Studios/Sony relationship. For now, we have to take it with a grain of salt, but since we like the sound of it, we’ll hope the big guy knows what he’s talking about.
