The Express is reporting that during a recent set visit by Empire, Benedict Cumberbatch, titular star of the next Marvel Cinematic Universe installment Doctor Strange will be making his way around the MCU, including an appearance in the highly anticipated Avengers: Infinity War.
While discussing what was next on the good doctor’s plate, Cumberbatch noted the “logistical challenge of aligning his schedule with those of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany.” That Doctor Strange would be interacting with Iron Man, Thor, Scarlet Witch, and the Vision would seem to suggest that some mystical help may be needed in dealing with the Mad Titan Thanos in his quest for the Infinity Stones.
To get us all together will be quite something. That’s why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter. So watch this space to see how that unfolds.
While Avengers: Infinity War doesn’t hit US theaters until May 4, 2018, The Express also suggested that Strange would be making a cameo in next year’s Thor: Ragnarok film. This is based on an image snapped on set of Thor holding a card with the address of Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum written on it. (This was also noted in this MCU Exchange post.)
While this is hardly definitive proof of Strange’s appearance in Ragnarok, yet another on-screen reference is certainly interesting enough to show that Stephen Strange will be an important player in the MCU, especially given the previous name drop in Captain America: Winter Soldier and the TV tie-in promised on upcoming episodes of this season’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
This certainly suggests that Marvel Studios has a lot in store for this character throughout the MCU. Where would you like to see the Master of the Mystic Arts show up next? Sound off below.
