After learning back in June that actor Donald Glover would have a role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, we were all excited to learn more. Marvel later confirmed the casting back at Comic-Con, but since then we haven’t heard much. Just recently at a TCA panel for his new FX series, Atlanta, Glover was questioned about his time shooting the upcoming Marvel film and he had nothing but positive things to say.

As an Atlanta native, Glover was excited to be able to shoot the film in his hometown, stating that it was “icing on the cake”, although he would’ve have signed on for the project regardless. He also praised his experience on the movie’s set, stating that he “had a great time” on set and that director Jon Watts is doing a great job.

Of course, when Glover was announced as joining the cast, it created a ton of buzz. As I’m sure most of you will recall, when Sony was casting for their Amazing Spider-Man reboot, fans had started a campaign to try and get Glover the role as Spider-Man. Although that campaign didn’t succeed, Glover still credits the fans with landing him a role in this world.

[The buzz] was kind of an accident. I really wasn’t out there trying to do that. I feel like the Internet did that. It was cool because now I get to see from the inside a lot of that stuff, which is kind of all you can ask for as a fan.

Obviously, the big question still remains, who is he playing? When asked what he could say about his role, Glover quickly responded that he was “not allowed to say” and was “sworn to secrecy”. So it seems we’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out more regarding his character, even though we do have a few good guesses.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit the big screen on July 7th, 2017.
