Update: Marvel has since confirmed both Natalia Cordova-Buckley‘s casting, as well as revealed the photo on their site. I’ve updated the original article below.

Back in November, That Hashtag Show reported that actress Natalia Cordova-Buckley had been cast as Yo Yo Rodriguez a.k.a. Slingshot, although at the time, her casting was merely a rumor. Now, thanks to the folks over at Comicbook.com, Cordova-Buckley’s casting has officially been confirmed, and they even have our first look at the actress as Elena Rodriguez.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Comicbook.com has a short rundown on her backstory in the comics:

In the Marvel Comics universe, Rodriguez – who goes by the nickname “Yo-Yo” – is the daughter of the villain called Griffin. She has the ability to move at super speed and then snap back to the spot she started from, hence the nickname and codename. She is one of the Caterpillars recruited by Nick Fury into the Secret Warriors. During an operation, Slingshot has both of her arms cut off by the Gorgon, one of Hydra’s deadliest agents. Slingshot is fitted with two prosthetic replacements and returns to active duty as a member of the team.

Along with the official look at Cordova-Buckley in character, Marvel revealed a quote from Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb regarding her casting:

“We announced at San Diego Comic-Con that the Secret Warriors story will be coming to ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,’ and we’re pleased to say that will continue to play out in the second half of our season,” said Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Natalia embodies both the toughness and the warmth necessary for the role of Elena as we bring another piece of the team to the screen for the first time.”

With Slingshot officially joining S.H.I.E.L.D., it’s more than likely we’ll begin to see more established characters from the comics make their way onto the show as they continue to build Daisy’s team of Secret Warriors. Who else would you like to see join the team? Sound off in the comments below.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns on March 8th for season 3B. Be sure to tune in! And as always, for all things Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. be sure to follow along here.
