When we finally arrived at Age of Ultron, we found ourselves having missed a LOT of story and character development in the MCU.
Tony was back to making suits, Iron Leigon, Hulk Buster and even funding the Avengers. Thor was back on earth and had been for some time.(I know he is there in the post credit sequence on TDW but it was more gag than anything) Cap is not looking for Bucky as we thought he would be as indicated by the ending of CA:TWS. Banner is back on the team with no explanation and long enough for he and Natasha to develop a relationship. The team is really at the end of a series of missions to take down Hydra and stand-in for the fallen SHIELD. We missed a lot that I would have loved to see.
Now, the Russos are not Joss and it’s far more likely they will build a bridge from CA:CW than Joss had any cause to do with the phase two films prior. They’ve also said the conflict between Tony and Cap won’t be resolved off screen and that Infinity War starts from a point of division. However, I still wonder and worry, Tony and Cap had the central conflict and I’m sure that won’t be glossed over but most of the other Avengers are fugitives at this point, the ones that aren’t are damaged in some way.
I think Black Panther is a prime opportunity to tell a bit of that story, either in passing or explicitly. At the end of CA:CW we were left with Cap and Bucky finding sanctuary in Wakanda, then Cap breaks out the rest of the Avengers. This leads me to hope for Wakanda based Avengers. Wherein the team would at least operate out of Wakanda as a base of operations and thus set us up and catch us up for Infinity War. Without that, I worry we’ll be left with a situation similar to AoU.September 23, 2016 at 3:31 pm #14026
I’m most curious as to when Xander gets destroyed, is it in GotG Vol 2 or some point during Infinity War. I hope we don’t just get a mid Credit scene or just one off line.
Where does Captain Marvel fit in it? Will she gain her powers in Infinity War or will she already have them?
As you stated, so many questions we need answers to not just jumping past them.September 27, 2016 at 10:53 pm #14311
I sincerely hope we don’t just start with Danvers having her powers and being established. As tired as origins can be, hers isn’t run of the mill and would be a waste to brush past.
I’m thinking she will not show up in A:IF but in Avengers 4. Same thing wtih WASP actually.September 30, 2016 at 10:37 pm #14567
If Ant-Man and Wasp don’t appear in Infinity War then I will be a little upset. They had plans to introduce Captain Marvel at the end of Age of Ultron. I personally hope she too appears in Infinity War with her powers, and her film can still be her Origin.
