Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is still a few months away, but some lucky people have already gotten to see its very first test screening. At a “friends and family” test screening for James Gunn‘s intergalactic sequel, the film received a perfect score of 100 from the audience, topping all of Marvel’s previous films’ test screening scores. Every MCU film goes through the test screening process, which asks audience members to rate the film on a scale from 1-100, but none of the previous 14 movies have managed to attain a perfect test score. Marvel’s previous high-scorers, Iron Man 3 and The Avengers, both scored in the high nineties.

It’s important to keep in mind that test screenings aren’t perfect indicators of a movie’s quality, and because every test audience is different, it can be hard to compare scores of different movies. Still, a perfect score is definitely cause for optimism about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s prospects. The first Guardians of the Galaxy was a smash hit, raking in $773 Million worldwide and scoring a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. Given the major excitement around the sequel, it was already almost a sure thing that Vol. 2 would be another major financial success, but this news gives us even more reason to believe the sequel will live up to its predecessor in the eyes of fans as well.

It’s astounding to consider that in just 3 short years, Guardians of the Galaxy has gone from being considered Marvel’s riskiest properties to one of its safest bets. Instead of the late-summer release date of the original, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to kick off the summer blockbuster season in the first weekend in May, much like The Avengers in 2012. While it’s far too soon to say whether the film can reach the box office heights of The Avengers, it’s entirely within the realm of possibility.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will release on May 5, 2017.
