Early criticisms of Iron Fist seem to point out that the first half of the series is a bit slow paced. Counting a lack of action and a true villain for the show as the overarching issue that drags the pace down. It seems this aspect was intentional, as an interview with stars Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick hints to a much stronger second half waiting for patient viewers. In an interview with the press in New York City, Henwick and Jones pointed out some late cast additions that will change up the pace.

“There are two characters who come into the second half of Iron Fist season one who hasn’t been announced yet.”

“It’s so frustrating not being able to announce them.”

The million dollar question: who are these characters? Now the obvious one is Steel Serpent, whose symbol has been teased throughout the Defenders series, most notably in the form of drugs used by the goons of Hell’s Kitchen. Finn Jones even alludes to it when pressed with even more questions.

Maybe that’s what we were just errr… My publicist is looking at me with devil eyes. Hey look, that’s going to be announced very soon so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s announced before these even come to print.

The joke is on Finn Jones, as everyone is pretty much running with this news now. As for the unnamed character that’s being teased, it’s anyone’s guess really. But sometime last year, if some of you remember correctly, this website and The Hashtag Show both independently confirmed that Shang-Chi would be included in the show. Since then, we’ve never had confirmation, let alone a hint, that the Master of Kung Fu would indeed be a part of the show until this interview. In light of these comments, we believe that there is a fair chance that Shang-Chi is one of these characters. A comment by Henwick adds fuel to the fire that this may be that very character.

It’s so frustrating because they knock it out of the park, but there’s one in particular who fans are…it’s a comic book character who’s not been seen before and at the end of Iron Fist they set him up in a really interesting way…I think for me, that’s the most interesting relationship on the show.”

It will be interesting to see if this piece of casting gets announced, or if they’ll keep it as a surprise until it premieres. The timing of this interview in many ways is them doing damage control to appease the fans that criticized the first half of the season and understandably so. The Marvel Netflix shows mostly have stronger starts but weaker endings so Iron Fist could very well be the first to break that mold and end strongly.

What do you think of them potentially introducing Davos later in the season ala Diamondback from Luke Cage? Could Steel Serpent and Shang-Chi be appearing in the show? Let us know in the comments below!
