Over the past couple of months, we learned that Stan Lee had already filmed his next four cameos for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And now, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we now know just a tiny bit more regarding those cameo appearances. It looks like Stan-the-Man took the time to shoot all four of those cameo appearances with none other than Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.
EW caught up with Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson himself, who explained the reason behind Stan Lee’s marathon shoot. “It’s a big deal for a 93-year-old man to go to a movie set and spend a day shooting,”
It only made sense to have Stan squeeze his cameos together to get them out of the way already. This resulted in Stan shooting the four cameos with Gunn in only one day. Derickson notes that Gunn wanted to make sure he got the shot just right “James was texting me the frame. Does this look right? Does this look good?” Viewers will most likely not be able to note any stylistic difference between the cameos and their respected films, even with the stylistically unique Gunn behind the camera.
Although Lee is in Doctor Strange, Derickson didn’t meet him in person until the film’s premiere. He did, however, share a phone call with him regarding Doctor Strange. “I talked to him on the phone, and he grilled me pretty well,” He continued “By the end of the conversation, he was very happy.”
Lee’s big shoot was commented on around a month ago by Marvel’s own Kevin Feige. “He was unbelievable,” Feige said. “He was on fire. He came in, he sat here, he stood there, he stood in this window, and then he went home.” Sounds like the Stan Lee we all know and love!
