San Diego Comic-Con 2016 is officially behind us and during their Marvel Studios panel in Hall H on Saturday, they brought out a ton of surprises. Not only did they confirm some Black Panther casting, release the second Doctor Strange trailer, bring out the cast for Spider-Man: Homecoming, and confirm Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, but they also dedicated a big portion of the panel to Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2. During the upcoming sequel’s time on stage, they revealed quite a bit regarding character details, but also showed off some brand new footage.
Full footage descriptions for what was shown are available online, but in typical Marvel fashion, they did not release any of the footage shown during Hall H. Instead, they intend to keep that all under wraps as a special treat for attendees, but that is not good enough for the rest of us. Since the footage that heavily featured Yondu, Rocket, and Baby Groot was so well received, everybody that wasn’t in Hall H wants to check out what was shown. Although Marvel and Gunn have previously been adamant that the footage will not be made to the public anytime soon, Gunn has indicated on Facebook that it might be sooner than we think.
The definition of “Semi-Soonish” is up for debate and will probably differ from person to person, but I am inclined to believe that we will see a version of what was shown in the next month or two. If that is not the case, we will certainly have a trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 by the time Doctor Strange hits theaters in November. Hopefully we do not have to wait that long, but I’m willing to wait until the effects are finished or nearly finished to see the footage for the first time.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters May 5, 2017.
