Kevin Feige has recently confirmed via the “Empire Film” podcast that Natalie Portman will not be reprising her role as Jane Foster in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. Now, this isn’t entirely new information as The Hollywood Reporter revealed as much when they announced that actress Tessa Thompson had joined the cast, but this is the first confirmation from Marvel. Feige was a bit vague with the exact reason why she will not appear, but he did mention that most of the film with take place off of Earth.

“[There are] many reasons [why]. Many of which are in the film so you will see that. There are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie. 80 to 90 percent takes place in the cosmos.”

There could be further reasons why Portman will not be appearing, but one other reason why the studio may have felt less apt to include her could be the casting of Thompson. It was previously broke the news that she was in talks to appear in the film as a love-interest for Thor.

Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to open in theaters on November 3rd 2017.
