The thing that sets Jessica Jones apart from the rest of the Netflix corner of the MCU, so far, is that (in addition to having a female lead) the show has been bringing home some amazing awards. The largest of which has been the Peabody Award, followed by a Hugo Award for the episode “AKA Smile.” It seemed that, after the Emmy Awards, the awards streak for Jessica Jones was over. But yesterday, the series received yet another nomination!
According to Variety, Jessica Jones is now nominated for the Gotham Awards. The Gotham Awards are given out by the Independent Filmmakers Project (IFP), an organization that only recently started awarding to serialized projects, in addition to independent movies. Jessica Jones is nominated in the category of “Breakthrough Series – Long Form.” The IFP provides the following description of the honor.
The IFP Gotham Independent Film Awards, selected by distinguished juries and presented in New York City, the home of independent film, are the first honors of the film awards season. This public showcase honors the filmmaking community, expands the audience for independent films, and supports the work that IFP does behind the scenes throughout the year to bring such films to fruition.
We’ll find out if the Jessica Jones team will be adding to their trophy collection at the awards ceremony on November 28th in New York City. Until then, congratulations to the cast and crew of the show for all of the well-deserved awards!
