The Defenders is getting closer every day, but there is a long summer between now and when we will see Matt Murdock, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand come together as the street level heroes of New York City. Each of these heroes has been featured on a poster by Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, whose beginnings were in illustrating many of the classic Marvel Comics. When filming wrapped a few weeks ago, we got a peak at new art for the show, in the background of some images from the wrap party, but today, Quesada has shared the full image in all of its glory.
Here’s a quick piece I did (sans logo and text) as a cast and crew gift for the Defenders team. This show is going to blow you away! pic.twitter.com/1Fw9MXTiZf

While our heroes are very clear in this image, and Sigourney Weaver‘s mystery-villain’s face is ominously behind them, there has been debate about if the character under Weaver is Elodie Yung‘s Elektra, or Jessica Henwick‘s Colleen Wing. With this clearer image, I’m still saying that this is Elektra, but you should definitely let us know who you think it is, in the comments.
It is great to see Quesada keeping this tradition of designing posters for each of the Netflix series (he did all except for Jessica Jones), so I look forward to seeing what he might create for The Punisher in his stand-alone series. Meanwhile, we get to see the action that Quesada refers to in his tweet, when The Defenders premieres on August 18.
