Everyone is excited to see the continued story of Matt Murdock when season 2 of Daredevil hits, but there may be even more excitement for the debuts of Punisher and Elektra. The former has had so much hype around him that plenty of us hoping for his own spin-off series in the near future.
Just two days ago, Jeph Loeb said that these previous rumors are mere speculation right now, with no certainty that it would happen. With Luke Cage currently filming, Jessica Jones getting a second season, and a new rumor that Iron Fist may have finally found their Danny Rand, we will likely have to wait a while for any announcements on a Punisher series
Even if the series could take time to happen, that does not mean that Jon Bernthal is not interested in it. While speaking to Empire, he says if it happens, he’ll be there.
This guy is very much burned into my heart and soul. I think about him all the time. And I look at it the same way Frank would look at it. I’m a soldier, man. If they call on me, I’ll stand to attention and I’ll be ready.
Whatever a potential Punisher series would consist of will depend on how the showdown between him and Daredevil plays out. As evident in the trailer, they do not see eye to eye but Bernthal says that they might at some point.
Frank is so filled with rage and despair that this idea of a guy prancing around in a costume with little horns beating up bad guys is absurd to him. It’s ripe for a character like Frank to come in and shit on that. What’s really interesting is that these guys are absolute enemies, but they start to understand each other.
The prospects of a Punisher series are certainly exciting, but I am trying to temper my excitement and expectations until we actually see Daredevil season 2. As long as viewers embrace the anti-hero and rave about Bernthal’s performance, I think it will only be a matter of time before Netflix and Marvel officially green light his own series.
Punisher will make his MCU debut when season 2 of Daredevil debuts exclusively on Netflix at 12:01 PST on March 18th.
