When it was announced that Jon Bernthal was cast as the Punisher, it was widely praised as perfect casting. Now that the excruciating wait is over and we have all witnessed the glory that is Bernthal’s portrayal of the character, the only question left for us is when we will see him next.

There have long been rumors that a Punisher spin-off is in the works, and even with executives denying that claim Bernthal said “he’ll be ready” should the opportunity come. We are still waiting to learn when Punisher will pop up next, whether it be in a spin-off or another Netflix series, but Bernthal is looking forward to the future.

In a recent interview with Collider, he was asked about what is next for the character. Even he does not know when he will appear again, but is confident (and rightfully so) that he will appear again. When he does return, Bernthal wants to make sure the character continue to be hard to root for.

For me, it’s not a question of what they want to do with a character, it’s more, how are they going to do it, and who’s going to be the ones to do it. This character is in my bones now, he’s in my blood. If they want to go forward in any way, for me it’s just really going to be about making sure we do it in a way that’s raw and intense. I want to push the envelope. I wanna alienate more of the audience and try to bring them back.

Given Marvel’s loaded slate on the Netflix side alone, with Luke Cage nearing the end of production as Iron Fist nears teh beginning, it is unclear when he will see the screen again. Jessica Jones already has a second season announced, that will likely come after The Defenders mini-series, but a third season of Daredevil, a Punisher spin-off, and who knows what else are also being discussed behind the scenes. Hopefully we see him sooner rather than later, and given his relationship with Tom Holland, appearing in the Spider-Man reboot would be great.

Season 2 of Daredevil is currently streaming exclusively on Netflix.
