Just one movie into Phase 3, we have already seen a majority of the characters within the MCU again thanks to Captain America: Civil War. Even though they were mentioned by name, Thor and Hulk were both missing from the film, but are set to team up next year in Thor: Ragnarok. After months of rumors, Marvel finally confirmed this last week and even with everyone trying to figure out what actors will be in the MCU, a few of the announced additions were surprises to all.
One of those is Karl Urban, who is set to play Skurge (also known as the Executioner), in the third installment in the Thor franchise. Urban was recently out promoting his next film, Star Trek Beyond, shortly after the news of him joining the MCU broke. IGN was lucky enough to ask him about what it is like and for Urban, working with the talented group assembled was part of it, but also knowing that his character has a great story in the movie.
I read a fantastic script that was action-packed and full of great characters. When I heard who was involved — and the cast list dropped yesterday — and [saw] the opportunity to work with [director] Taika Waititi, who I think is one of the most brilliant directors coming through, I made the decision it was something that I wanted to be a part of. And the character is fantastic. He’s got a great arc to him. Obviously I can’t say too much about it, but I’m really thrilled to be a part of the Marvel universe and to be working on Thor: Ragnarok.
I am very interested to see how Skurge will be used in this film, especially without his regular partner, Enchantress, not being in the film (yet). Will he be the muscle for Hela or could he be one of the many foes Hulk or Thor has to face in the gladiator matches? Let us know what you think Skurge’s role will be the comments below!
Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to hit theaters November 3, 2017.
