It looks like we may finally be getting close to an announcement regarding who will direct Captain Marvel. Many fans were originally expecting the name of the director to be attached with the announcement of Brie Larson in the titular role at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, however that never came to fruition. Now it seems that we may have a new deadline for when that announcement may be made.

Vulture recently sat down with the one and only Kevin Feige to see if he could release any information on the important decision. He had this to say;

“Now,” he said, “I expect to have a director by the end of the year.”

Well there you go folks, there shouldn’t be too much longer of a wait to know which visionary will be bring the long loved character to the screen. Then again, it isn’t the first time we have had a deadline for the announcement. Feige went on to comment on the long wait and even touched on the tedious hiring process the studio uses when hiring a new director for a film.

“We’ve been meeting amazing filmmakers, but often the way we work, as was the case on Doctor Strange and most of our movies, is that we have a … I don’t want to say a ‘road map,’ but we have a general view of what the movie is and then we meet with filmmakers and share that with them and then they pitch it back to us in a better fashion.”

This may explain why the process has taken longer than even Feige may have expected. It seems as if Marvel’s rigorous hiring process has put some delay on the choice, however that may be for the best. Making sure they got the right person for the job is one of the things Marvel Studios does best. Not to mention this is a character that Feige himself stated will be a very important addition to the universe.

Feige continued on his excitement for Larson in the role, and the potential he believes Captain Marvel has in the MCU. For him, Larson and her realism is important as she will bring a “counterbalance” to what will be a very powerful character:

“All of the Marvel characters have flaws to them, all of them have a deep humanity to them. With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we’ve ever put in a movie. Her powers are off the charts, and when she’s introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we’ve ever had.”

Wow, those are some words that will definitely please Marvel and Captain Marvel fans alike. With backlash about some of the heroes such as Thor or Drax having a “nerfed” or weakened power level in their film appearances, many fans will be satisfied to have a character who is wielding a similar power level to their comic counter part.

Overall pretty exciting stuff coming up for Captain Marvel. What do you guys think? Are you excited to be getting a power accurate Captain Marvel or to get news on the films director? Sound off in the comments below!
