Ever since Chadwick Boseman’s first onscreen debut as Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War, fans have been highly anticipating his solo film, set for release in 2018. This summer at San Diego Comic-Con, we finally got to see the cast of the film together for the first time. Well…at least some of the cast. Chadwick Boseman was joined on stage in Hall H along with his co-stars Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, and Danai Gurira. However, over the past few months, more casting news has started to trickle in.
A couple of months later, in late September, we learned that Person of Interest alum Winston Duke had signed on as longtime Black Panther foe M’Baku the Man Ape. And then earlier this month, Marvel confirmed via a press release that Forest Whitaker, Daniel Kaluuya, and Florence Kasumba had all also joined the all-star cast in various roles. Much like Spider-Man: Homecoming, the casting news for Black Panther continues to come in, as Ready Player One actress Letitia Wright has recently been cast in a mysterious role, according to Variety.
Wright’s role is unknown at the time.
It’s all speculation at this point, but because Variety has claimed that her role is unknown, it is likely that Wright will portray Shuri, T’Challa’s half sister, who actually even bore the mantle of Black Panther for a time in the comics. Again, this is purely speculation, but at this point, it’s really anyone’s guess. Do you have any theories? Sound off in the comments below!
Black Panther is set for release in theaters on July 6, 2018
