Long before we saw any sort of footage for Marvel and Netflix’s third series, Luke Cage, we were told that it’d have a heavy musical vibe to it. In fact, the series even managed to secure Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad for the show’s score, a rather impressive get for both Marvel and Netflix. However, as great as the inclusion of Younge and Muhammad are, they’re only a hint of what the series has to offer musically. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times while at SDCC, Luke Cage showrunner, Cheo Hodari Coker, announced multiple on camera performances that are sure to make fans even more excited.
In the video interview, which you can view above, Coker confirms the appearances of artists such as Faith Evans, Method Man, Charles Bradley, The Delfonics, and Raphael Saadiq, just to name a few. That’s a rather impressive list of artists, no? Much like the shows use New York as a secondary character, it appears Luke Cage will also be using music as a character, and I can’t wait to see how they go about doing so.
Luke Cage will debut its first season on Netflix on September 30th, for now, you can catch Mike Colter as the hero in the first season of Jessica Jones.
