Marvel is known for a lot of things, and one of their top traits is the secrecy that they like to keep regarding their projects. Between story and plot details, Marvel also likes to keep character details and even names held close to their chest. They are kicking off Phase 3 next week, and later this year they will be releasing Doctor Strange as well, a film that’ll take the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a whole new direction. One of the characters that is shrouded in secrecy is the one being played by Mads Mikkelsen.
We got our first look at the character on the last day of shooting, but the only details we’ve been given about the character is that he is the main villain. Not all villains are the same, and Mads is not filled with evil. As he told Sky News, his character and Strange just have different views.
I believe I’m allowed to say, I play an opponent, a baddie. Not really a baddie, but someone who believes in something else than what Doctor Strange believes in.
Hopefully with Mads not be a generally crazed villain it can provide the movie with a great deal of interesting conflict between him and Benedict Cumberbatch. Loki is widely attributed as being the best villain and that is due in large part because of the amount of time developing him and the differentiating viewpoint he has with Thor. If Marvel can duplicate this with Mads and make him a long lasting villain, it could mean great things for the eventual Doctor Strange sequel. Let us know who you think Mads is playing in the comments below!
Doctor Strange is scheduled to hit theaters November 4th, 2016.
