Over the course of the past two seasons, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has toyed with web series’, and much like has been the case with S.H.I.E.L.D., the web shows haven’t been afraid to re-invent themselves with each new season. Last season, the web series, which was called Double Agent, toyed with the presence of a traitor among the S.H.I.E.L.D. crew. It wasn’t entirely too interesting, and felt more like an ad for Lexus than anything, but they did manage to get Stan Lee involved on the series, which made for a nice little surprise.

Now, going into the second half of season three, they’re switching things up – and not just a bit. This time around, they are putting fans of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. through all sorts of tests in order to win a chance to play an agent on the set of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..

ABC and Marvel teamed up for a new five-part web series, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Academy, where fans compete for a chance to play an agent on the set of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The contestants will undergo training and take on show-related challenges—including a recreation of Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) diving stunt in “Closure.”

Stars from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., including Gregg and Chloe Bennet (Daisy), will appear in the online series as well.

Curious? TV Insider has the first promo for the web series which you can check out below.

Unfortunately, while I do think this is a cool opportunity for fans of the series, I wish they’d actually make a web series that had more to do with the actual show. Five, five minutes segments featuring Daisy helping to train the new Secret Warriors members – moments we don’t always get to see on the show? Or even a series like DC’s Vixen, just not animated. Something like that would have made for a more desirable web series. Still, it’s worth checking out, and we’ll be sure to post new episodes as they are released!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC tonight at 9 PM EST!
