Filming of Marvel’s The Punisher is well underway and with several rounds of set photos having already made their way online, we knew the cast of the show had grown by at least one. Today, Marvel revealed that they had filled 5 additional roles for the show, which will air in 2017, and one of them may ring a bell to fans of the Punisher MAX comics.

The new members and a breakdown of their roles, straight from Marvel.com:

Daniel Webber (“11.22.63”) has been cast as Lewis Walcott, a young veteran who has had a difficult time re-assimilating into Civilian Society.

Jason R. Moore (“A Lonely Place for Dying”) joins as Curtis Hoyle, a friend of Frank Castle’s and one of the few people who knows he is alive.

Paul Schulze (“Nurse Jackie”) will play Rawlins, a high-ranking member of the CIA whose operations in Afghanistan intersect with Frank Castle.

Jaime Ray Newman (“Bates Motel”) plays Sarah Lieberman, Micro’s wife (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach) whose marriage has made her life far more complicated.

Michael Nathanson (“The Knick,” “Wolf of Wall Street”) has been cast as Sam Stein, a Homeland agent who is challenged by his partnership with Dinah (Amber Rose Revah)**

The show, which seems to be centered on exposing some underhanded military operations, will have the luxury of showcasing one of Marvel’s most sociopathic and corrupt government characters in Rawlins. Rawlins provided a great adversary for Castle in a run of Punisher MAX and his inclusion here is no surprise to us as we originally believed Ben Barnes, who was later revealed as playing Billy Russo, to be filling this role.

Adding Curtis Hoyle to the mix further seeds the story for opportunities to tie into Castle’s military past (hinted at in Daredevil Season 2) and for a potential betrayal.

The other three characters seem to be created for the show, but expect Daniel Webber’s Lewis Walcott to play a key role. Below is the casting call for the character:

[LAWRENCE WILCOX](male, 25,Caucasian or any ethnicity) – Midwestern, young, intense and troubled, former Veteran. SERIES REGULAR, 7/13, ONE YEAR DEAL**

Nathanson’s Sam Stein has already been seen in set photos working alongside his partner Dinah and will likely fill the role of many comic book cops who have mixed feelings about the vigilante known as The Punisher. While I don’t recall Micro having a wife that we saw in the comics, it seems that with Newman’s casting, we can expect to see a lot of Micro outside of his interactions with Frank.

Stay tuned for all the Punisher news you can handle and look for it to hit Netflix in 2017!
