As the Oscars go along tonight, many of the actresses and actors who have been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are up for various awards. Ruth Negga and Natalie Portman are both nominated for Best Actress, while Jeff Bridges and Mahershala Ali are nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Doctor Strange is also up for best visual effects. If those talented individuals manage to bring home a little gold man tonight, we’ll update you right here.

Best Supporting Actor- Mahershala Ali

Cottonmouth Stokes himself is the first big winner of the evening from the MCU stable of talent. While Marvelites know him for his excellent work as a villain of Luke Cage, tonight he was awarded for his work on Moonlight. This win just cements how incredible the cast of the Power Man’s Netflix show is. Congratulations to Mahershala! His win also means that another MCU Actor, Jeff Bridges from Iron Man, missed out on the same award.

MCU Oscar Drought Continues

Doctor Strange becomes another in a long string of Marvel Studios films to be nominated but lose an Oscar for best Visual Effects. The award this year went instead to The Jungle Book. This is disappointing for MCU fans who would like to see an Oscar go to one of these movies, but there’s still next year. The effects in Jungle Book are fantastic and the movie is a deserving winner.

Former Gwen Stacy Actress Edges out MCU Actresses

Two Marvel actresses, Ruth Negga from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Natalie Portman from Thor, were nominated for Best Actress, but the award went instead to Emma Stone for her role in La La Land. While she has never been in an MCU film before, she has spent some time in the world of Marvel films. In the Amazing Spider-Man series Stone played Gwen Stacy opposite fellow nominee Andrew Garfield‘s Spider-Man.

That’s a wrap. Congratulations to all the nominees and the winners. Here’s to an MCU Oscar next year!
