Although the main focus over the past few months has been the upcoming release of Captain America: Civil War, Marvel surprised fans everywhere when they dropped the first trailer for Doctor Strange last week! (After all, the film had only completed filming about a week prior.) It was a smart move on the studio’s end, because while there are plenty of fans excited to see the character come to life within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are still plenty who are not familiar with him or his origins. For that reason, we decided to make our second episode of MCU Profiles one that focuses on the doctor himself!
With Captain America: Civil War soon to open to the general public on May 6th, Doctor Strange is the second film from Marvel Studios to be released 2016, as well as the second film in Marvel Studios’ Phase Three lineup. Based on the Sorcerer Supreme character from the comics, the film Doctor Strange follows the same strategy as Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man in expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe– this time, through magic. Although his popularity in the comics does not stand against characters such as The Avengers, the creation of Doctor Strange reflected the cultural shift in the 1960’s, which will also result in the style of this film.
