Even though the sequel to this summer’s Ant-Man won’t hit movie theaters until 2018, we’ve already heard a decent amount of news regarding Ant-Man & the Wasp, including the return of director Peyton Reed and stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly. And we’ve even heard interest from Adam McKay, who co-wrote the first film with Rudd, about the possibility to return for writing duties on the sequel, although none of that is set in stone at the moment. But there’s one key cast member that we haven’t heard about until day – Michael Douglas. Up until now, his return had been assumed, but Douglas confirmed in an interview with Collider earlier today that he is currently in negations to return.

I just got a call recently – they want to negotiate for a sequel and I thought “That’s great!” Hopefully, I won’t have to carry quite as much expositional dialogue as the first one but I had a wonderful time doing it. Just a great, great time. The cast was fantastic. Paul, Evangeline, Michael Pena – I’m sure he’ll be back. If they can scrape Corey Stoll off the wall, I’m sure they’ll want him too – he’s such a good villain. And Peyton too. It was a lovely experience, so you know, I welcome it. I chuckle about being involved with a movie that already has a release date in 2018. Ya know, it’s hard to conceive of that, but it’s all good, all the way around, it’s all good.

Having loved Ant-Man, I’m excited to think about the prospects of the sequel, especially with Reed able to build this film from the ground up this time and really make it his own. Of course, the fantastic cast – especially Michael Pena – don’t hurt either. With filming not set to start on Ant-Man & the Wasp until 2017, it’s safe to assume it’ll be a bit before we hear too much else. In the meantime, you can pick-up a copy of Ant-Man when it hits Blu-Ray & DVD on December 8th.
