Thanks to the way Marvel Studios finished off San Diego Comic-Con, a lot of the rest of SDCC was put on the back of people’s minds. That is a great thing for Marvel Studios, but for everything else shown, the excitement for other properties was hurt, and that includes other Marvel Cinematic Universe related stories. The Netflix corner of the universe kicked off SDCC in a great way, but quickly got swallowed up by the bigger studio. You should still be plenty excited for what was shown, which included a heavy presence for Luke Cage – the next Marvel/Netflix property.
When the cast was not at the panel, they were busy doing interviews to promote the upcoming series and that meant a lot of screen time for star Mike Colter. In more than one instance, he was paired up with Theo Rossi, who will play Shades, for interviews, which may indicate a strong relationship for the two of them over the course of the first season. While speaking to Crave Online, they teased what there characters interactions could be, and makes it sound like there will be a few changes as their relationship evolves.
Rossi: You know, it’s all peaches and cream. It always is. [laughs]
Colter: There’s before and after, and it’s kind of the same actually. It’s funny because our characters, I can’t get to much into it because I want the fans to see it. It’s like, our characters knew each other for a very long time, so there’s a lot of history. It’s interesting to see where the characters are and how they interact once they find out that they knew each other from back in the day. It’s a nice twist and I like it a lot.
In the comics, Shades and Luke have a complicated relationship that changes throughout their time on the street. I expect something similar to unfold when the series premieres, and since the two actors seem to have great chemistry off-screen, it makes me think that we will reach a point where Shades and Luke are no longer foes but instead, friends. The rest of interview involves Colter expressing how much busier he is in the starring role and how he wants to fight Spider-Man, so you can check the rest out in the video at the top of the post.
Luke Cage will debut exclusively on Netflix at 12:01 a.m. PST on September 30th.
