Production for Avengers: Infinity War started up back in January and news on the production has steadily been trickling in ever since. A few weeks before filming began, a casting call was released seeking extras to play aliens in ‘featured roles.’ Details on the roles were scarce, but the casting call did tell us that the extras will need prosthetics to fully get into character. Other than that, we don’t know anything concrete, but you can check out our top guesses as to who these aliens will be here. As production continues, more extras casting calls have surfaced, and these have given us some interesting tidbits as to who we can expect to show up, and where. Check out the original casting call below:
Aliens (Background/Extra) Males & Females, 18-50. Tall, slender or athletic build. Must be comfortable being painted (including on your face & any exposed body parts). All ethnicities.
Vikings (Background/Extra) Males & Females, 18-59. Especially looking for men with long hair & beards. Must be comfortable with fake blood and possibly special effects make-up. Caucasian.
Warrior Woman (Background/Extra) Female, 20-39. Athletic build, 5’9”-5’11”, waist 26-28, hips 37-39. Looking for someone with a high top fade or willing to cut hair on just the sides and wear a wig. African-American.
Right off the bat, we have what appears to be the same alien race that we saw in the previous casting call, but we could be wrong. There are so many alien species that have been introduced into the MCU thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor films alone to be able to tell for sure, not to mention the plethora of other species in the Marvel Universe as a whole who haven’t been introduced on screen yet. So I say all that to say it’s really anybody’s guess at this point, but enough about the aliens; let’s get to the good stuff.
The second of the casting calls is seeking vikings. First thing that comes to mind? Asgardians. It’s just a guess, but it’s a pretty good one. As if the whole ‘Vikings’ thing wasn’t enough, the long hair and beards virtually gives it away on its own. Similarly, it appears as if the Warrior Woman role will be a featured extra, given that the call is far more specific. The call (similar to a previous one in late-January) specifies that this warrior needs to be African-American with a high top fade on the sides. Again, I know this doesn’t really give us too much to go on, but hey, that never stopped anyone from speculating, so here goes.
If I had to guess, I would say that this warrior is either Asgardian or Wakandan. If she is Asgardian, it is more than likely she will be one of the Valkyries, which will make their debut appearance later this year with Tessa Thompson in Thor: Ragnarok. That being said, it’s more than likely that this warrior will actually end up being a member of the Dora Milaje, the personal bodyguards of T’Challa, the Black Panther.
So probably the biggest thing we can take away from this casting call is that we may see some very familiar locations in Infinity War. In films past, we’ve seen Asgard in all its glory, and given that Black Panther is set for release three months before Infinity War, none of these locations will be new to us. Still, it would be nice to see some familiar locations in the film, especially since the film will venture out into some pretty crazy cosmic locations in the MCU.
What do you think? Could these extras be Asgardians, Wakandans, or something else? Sound off in the comments!
