We’ve previously reported on some rumors involving Sebastian Stan‘s Winter Soldier and how involved he will be in Captain America: Civil War, now it’s looking like his role could be expanded even more according to new rumors. The Daily SuperHero is reporting that Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes will be a KEY player in Civil War, so much so that it appears he will be involved in almost every aspect of the plot.
According to their sources, Baron Zemo and Crossbones are after Winter Soldier in hopes they can lure him in and brainwash him again to work for their new organization. Meanwhile, Captain America and Falcon are still trying to locate him in an attempt to get the old Bucky back. We’ve seen some set photos over the last few days showing Falcon, Crossbones, Captain America, Scarlet Witch and Black Widow with most assuming the action taking place somewhere in Africa (though likely not Wakanda). Could this be where Crossbones and Cap’s new team finally cross paths in their search for Winter Soldier?
Additionally, their sources confirm the popular speculation that Tony Stark is also looking for Winter Soldier as he’s under the impression Bucky is responsible for the death of his parents. The previous rumor via Umberto Gonzalez that states Black Panther is ALSO on the hunt for Winter Soldier is seemingly confirmed via The Daily SuperHero’s sources.
Another website, LaineyGossip, corroborates much of the above but also adds in this bit of info:
Civil War is a critical moment for Sebastian Stan and Bucky Barnes—he has to get everyone on his side by the end of this movie, because his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get a lot bigger.
Could this be hinting at Bucky taking over the mantle of Captain America after Civil War? The Civil War storyline, and the inclusion of Crossbones and Agent 13/Sharon Carter sure make those familiar with the comic books a little concerned with the fate of Steve Rogers. I’ve been of the opinion he won’t pass on the shield until Phase 4, but the more I hear about this movie, the more my opinion begins to sway.
Remember, this is all rumors with a tiny bit of my own speculation tossed in, but looking at the source article from The Daily SuperHero, the author points out (and links to) his solid track record. So there could be some truth to this. What do you think? Sound off in the comments below.
