Well this came out of nowhere. Entertainment Weekly just broke the news that Damages and The White Queen star Janet McTeer will be joining the much-awaited second season of our favorite alcoholic P.I. in an undisclosed role described as “a character who will have an enormous impact on Jessica’s life”. Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb had this to say about the casting.
We are so fortunate to have an actress of Janet’s talent and stature join what is already an incredible cast. Our second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones aims to capture what audiences loved about our first, and Janet will be key to achieving that goal.
The visionary behind the award-winning Marvel Netflix show, Melissa Rosenberg added:
We couldn’t possibly be more excited to work with Ms. McTeer for our second season. Her gravitas and authenticity are the perfect ingredients for all we’re trying to create this year. She disappears into roles, gives her characters extraordinary dimension and depth. We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to collaborate with her.
Alright so let’s speculate who could she play. I’ve always wanted Typhoid Mary as the next JJ Big Bad but superficially, McTeer doesn’t seem to fit the bill of the seductive bombshell that is Mary Walker. Though I would be totally on board if they rewrote her into a seasoned battle-scarred Typhoid Mary who has been setting people on fire for sometime now. I also like the idea of McTeer playing someone related to the IGH program, a major plot point in the show that was left open for further exploring. Whoever she’s playing, we’re absolutely excited to have another distinguished performer onboard a show as incredible as Jessica Jones.
