Set to premiere on November 4th, the hype machine is in full gear for Doctor Strange. Much has been said about the film’s fantastic visuals and the introduction of magic into the MCU, but a good deal of speculation has also been focused on Rachel McAdams’ character Christine Palmer. In the comics, she took the mantle of Night Nurse and used her medical skills to help out the superhero community. Whether this would be the case in Doctor Strange was further complicated by the Claire Temple character portrayed by Rosario Dawson in Marvel’s Netflix shows, in which she fulfills a very similar role to the traditional Night Nurse of the comics. In fact, she was even referred to by the moniker offhandedly by a henchman in the newly released Luke Cage.

It was rumored that back in season one of Daredevil that the show’s creators wanted Rosario to play Christine Palmer but had to change the character to Claire due to Marvel Studios future plans for the Palmer version of Night Nurse. Though we do know that this iteration of Christine Palmer is an emergency room doctor instead of a nurse, the rumors about the character’s future direction still generate quite a bit of interest.

McAdams acknowledges she is aware of the rumors but declines to comment further. “Mum’s the word on that one,” says the Spotlight star.

Though McAdams won’t confirm or deny that her character is heading in the same direction as her comic book inspiration, Marvel head Kevin Feige was more forthcoming. According to him, Christine Palmer will not become Night Nurse in Doctor Strange.

“I will say that that story line does not play into the movie,” he reveals. As for the future? “It’s just as much fun for us as it is for the fans to speculate about that,” says the Marvel Studios chief.

We’ll have to wait and see how McAdams’ character differs and aligns when Doctor Strange comes out in November. But this being Marvel, they are sure to have plans for the future. What do you think? Should Christine Palmer become Night Nurse? Or should the mantle belong strictly to Claire Temple? Tell us in the comments below.
