Last year, we had Doug on hand at NYCC to help us bring you the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe news straight from the con floor. This year, though, we have various team members on hand – Doug, Nick, and Rhiannon – to help bring you all MCU news as it breaks. If you’ve been following along on the site the past day, you’ll note that a lot of news hit yesterday regarding two Marvel properties in particular: Iron Fist and The Punisher. While the former is currently nearing the end of its production in New York, the latter has just begun filming and is slowly beginning to round out its cast. So to make sure you didn’t miss any news from yesterday, we thought we’d do a quick recap. (Note: We will be doing these for each day.)
‘The Punisher’ Adds Three To Its Cast
About three weeks ago, TV Line broke the news that the latest Marvel series had cast actor Ben Barnes, perhaps most known for his role in the Narnia films, in an undisclosed villain role. Yesterday, Marvel officially announced Barnes as part of the cast – just in a different role than originally reported. While TV Line had speculated that the actor could be playing that of Bobby Saint, a role created specifically for the 2004 film, The Punisher, it was confirmed that Barnes is actually playing the role of Billy Russo.
Along with confirming Barnes, Marvel and Netflix also announced that Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Amber Rose Revah have joined the project as Micro and Dinah Madani, respectively. As exciting as all of that casting news is, though, it was the confirmation that the series will be hitting Netflix in 2017 that was really the biggest news. That brings us up to THREE Marvel shows on the streaming service next year as both Iron Fist and The Defenders have already been confirmed to debut in 2017.
Marvel And Netflix Debut ‘Iron Fist’ Art
And while Luke Cage‘s first season only just hit Netflix, Marvel and Netflix are already looking ahead to next year. The entertainment giant is going all out for Iron Fist at this year’s NYCC, not only bringing in an Iron Fist photo booth, as well as a cast signing and panel, but they’re also handing out exclusive posters made for the convention and special variant comics featuring series star Finn Jones as Danny Rand.
Given that the show has only confirmed six cast members thus far, it’s more than likely we’ll see Marvel announce a slew of actors for the project during the panel tomorrow.
Make sure to stay tuned to MCU Exchange throughout NYCC as we’ll be bringing you the news as soon as it hits! And also make sure to follow us on Twitter (@TheMCUExchange) as Doug and Rhiannon may be tweeting photos and bits from panels whenever possible!
