Update: Shortly after posting this as a rumor, Variety confirmed the casting, so Flanagan’s casting is now official. His role, however, is still rumored as Variety is simply only restating what HH originally reported without confirmation on that end. You can read the original report below.

When Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 went into production earlier this month, director James Gunn took to Facebook to reveal the cast list for the sequel, while also teasing surprises still to come in the coming months. That could have meant casting news. It could have meant first looks. Gunn was careful not to really specify what he meant by those surprises, but if the latest rumor coming out is to be believed, it very well could have been casting news.

According to Heroic Hollywood, actor Tommy Flanagan has joined the cast as none other than a Ravager, one that’ll serve as Yondu’s right hand man/second. Now, what’s interesting about this rumor was that, if you’ll recall not too long ago, the folks over at Geek.com ran a report that we’d see a couple of characters from the first film become Guardians in the sequel. Those two characters? Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Yondu (Michael Rooker). Of course, none of this has been confirmed, and more than likely won’t – outside of this rumored casting – until the movie hits next summer.

Here’s what they’re stating:

I’m told Flanagan is playing the right hand man of Yondu Udonta, the leader of The Ravagers. But wait guys that is not all! Here is this cool bit of inside info. Sources also tell me that in the sequel, The Ravagers have a bounty out on Rocket Raccoon which causes conflict within the group.

Now, as interesting as all of this is, it’s important to remember for the time being, these are all rumors. Nothing has been confirmed. But, given these two very different rumors, it’s interesting to consider Yondu’s story arc in the sequel, as well as Rocket’s. Especially since, it could cause tension between Rooker’s character and Flanagan’s if he’s out to get Rocket, and Yondu tries to stop him.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 will hit movie theaters on May 5th, 2017.
