We are going to start this off with a MAJOR SPOILER WARNING. This new rumor is coming from That Hashtag Show, and although they have reported a few rumors, none have so far been proven right or wrong at this point. Their latest scoop is about the ending to Captain America: Civil War, so if you do not want to see any possible spoilers, I suggest you turn away now.
Since the announcement that the third Captain America movie will have the subtitle of Civil War, fans have speculated how it would mirror the comic run. We will not have the unmasking of Spider-Man, but people will likely flip sides at some point. The comic ended with Captain America surrendering to S.H.I.E.L.D., which took a surprising turn after the arrest.
Based on what That Hashtag Show is reporting, Marvel Studios will follow the ending of the comic on the big screen.
This would be a very surprising turn in the MCU, especially with Chris Evans being such a big name in Hollywood. If this turns out to be true, Marvel Studios will also follow the comics by bring him back to life later on since Evans has already confirmed he’s in Avengers: Infinity War. It would be a great ending for the movie that would certainly shock audiences, although also possibly annoy them when Marvel brings yet another character back from the dead.
The other part of this rumor is that Marvel is still deciding who will carry on the Captain America name after the death. Apparently, Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), and Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter) all shot the same scene where they pick up the shield. If I had to guess, making Bucky the new Cap seems most likely. He has held the shield in all of his appearances so far, and the Civil War trailer showed he sure knows how to use it. Stan also signed a nine picture deal when he joined the MCU, so he has plenty of movies to go around.
Captain America: Civil War is scheduled to hit theaters May 6, 2016.
