Warning: Potential Spoilers for Captain America: Civil War below.
Before we even get started with the latest rumor surrounding Captain America: Civil War, we don’t want to underestimate how big of a rumor this is. So please, read this with a grain – or perhaps an entire bucket – of salt.
Okay, now onto the rumor… We’ve known for some time that Paul Bettany would be returning as Vision for the third Captain America movie, and although his side was seemingly revealed thanks to leaked concept art, things may be a bit more complex than that.
That Hashtag Show is reporting a few major points for Vision’s arc in the movie, starting with him finishing on the side of Captain America. Here is what they said,
The Vision will be Stark’s opposition throughout the film and will jump over to Cap’s team
Now this doesn’t come as much of a surprise to me that Vision would change sides. Unlike the rest of the people fighting in Civil War, he is not bound to this planet or the government. He is free to leave and do as he pleases, so his decisions will be based solely on what he thinks is the most logical option. At first he may think people should register, but after seeing the destruction that ensues, he decides that the world was better off before.
Another piece of information That Hashtag Show shared expanded on something shown at the end of the battle at Sokovia.
The Vision will be in a relationship with Scarlet Witch in the film.
This is another non-surprise to me, as the scene of Vision saving Scarlet Witch was certainly a set up scene for this story. This could also be an interesting dynamic to play out in the film as Elizabeth Olsen has already stated others don’t know what she’s capable of, so Vision’s choices could be affected by what happens to his love interest.
The final piece of information is the most interesting detail. According to their source, after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Vision will venture into outer space.
This rumor is definitely a surprise to me. Vision leaving Earth would set up a whole bunch of possibilities for Phase 3. He could show up in Thor: Ragnarok, which recently added Hulk to the cast, but it’s difficult to figure out what type of role he could have.
The other possibility would be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. This would be very surprising to me as James Gunn has been pretty clear on how he wants to keep the Guardians separate from the Avengers. However, it would make sense as an avenue to speed up the process of Thanos regaining control of the Mind Stone, and most likely killing Vision in the process. That was something I expected to happen near the end of Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, but could be pushed into this sequel.
If this does happen, Captain America: Civil War would likely have to explain how Hulk gets involved in Ragnarok and send Vision to space as well. That’s a few space subplots thrown into an already crowded movie.
All in all, the biggest piece of news comes there at the end. Share your thoughts on what Vision going to space could mean for the MCU below!
Captain America: Civil War is set to hit theaters May 6, 2016.
