As pre-production continues on Captain Marvel, with Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson set to star as the titular character, the studio has yet to select a director for the project. In previous interviews, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige has suggested that we should have an announcement by the end of the year. However, a recent update from Variety has provided an update as to the current state of the project, and it looks like that Feige’s original statement may no longer hold true.

While not a huge update, it is encouraging that the script will soon be near a completed version of a draft of the script. In addition, while it’s still hard to know which director the studio is leaning towards, Marvel has narrowed down a list of directorial candidates for the project, which indicates that a director selection and subsequent announcement may be arriving soon, perhaps as early as next spring.
Let us know what you think in the comments. Are you excited for the announcement of a female director for the film? Captain Marvel starring Larson is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on March 8th, 2019.
