After his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War people were eager to see more of Tom Holland as the newest version of Peter Parker. Thankfully we do not have to wait too long with his solo movie set to hit theaters next year, but as of right now, they currently in the middle of filming. We have seen plenty of unofficial casting announcements, set pics, and much more, but Marvel and Sony have been quiet on confirming anything so far.

Following Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel, they sent out the first press release for the film. This provides us with an updated synopsis calling back to his debut in Civil War, a few previously unannounced writers, and our first official castings – sadly without character names. Take a look at the following announcement-

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Marvel Studios’ “Captain: Civil War,” begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

Directed by Jon Watts

Produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal

Screenplay by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley and Jon Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers

Based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko

Executive Producers Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Jeremy Latcham, and Stan Lee

Cast: Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.

All of the casting announcements have been previously reported, but it is nice to have official confirmation that actors like Keaton, Glover, and others that have not yet been spotted on set are actually in the movie. One of the new writers, Ford, has worked with Watts before on both Cop Car and Clown, so that is not very surprising, but McKenna has no credits to his name as a writer on IMDB (if I looked at the right one) and Sommers has been tapped for The Lego Batman Movie (which looks hilarious) and the Jumanji reboot for Sony, so they are obviously pleased with what he has done before. Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled to hit theaters July 7, 2017.
