For real this time.
Over the past couple of weeks, several stars of Spider-Man: Homecoming have been reuniting and dropping hints on social media that reshoots for the film are starting to take place. Before I go on, I want to take a second to reassure those of you who may be concerned about the film having to undergo reshoots. In years past, reshoots have been perceived as a bad sign for a film, and with good reason. Sometimes a film will have to schedule reshoots after the distributors have seen footage that they’re not quite happy with, or after unsuccessful previews to test audiences. With Marvel however, reshoots are just another part of the filming process. In fact, Marvel Studios intentionally includes reshoots in the actors’ contracts so that they know exactly how long reshoots will be. Captain America: Civil War underwent similar reshoots in early 2016, and that didn’t affect the film negatively at all. So if any of you were concerned about reshoots, hopefully that will help ease your minds a little bit. Now, back to business. Two weeks ago, Tom Holland first teased a cast reunion via Twitter:
Excited to see my favourite Hawaiian this evening.
— Tom Holland (@TomHolland1996)
Holland was of course referring to none other than Jacob Batalon, who will be playing his onscreen best friend Ned Leeds. Around the same time, actors in Spider-Man suits were spotted filming started in Disneyland and Van Nuys High School in Los Angeles and Anaheim California, respectively. You can check out our coverage of the filming, complete with set photos, here. It was unclear whether or not it was actually Holland in the suit or not, but after we learned that the filming was for a Dell commercial promoting the film, it seems unlikely that he would provide any stunt work for the commercial. However, it does appear that reshoots are officially underway now, as Laura Harrier (Liz Allan) just checked in on set. In what appears to be a screenshot of Harrier’s Snapchat via Reddit.
Harrier’s confirmation of her return to filming further supports our hunch that Holland and Batalon are already underway with reshoots as well. So now that we’ve gotten the facts out of the way, it’s on to the fun part…speculation! From the little bit of footage we’ve been given in the first trailers, it’s close to impossible to tell what scenes, but that’s not going to stop us from trying. There’s not much to go on in the image, but she’s wearing her hair down along with a white top, very similar to the look she sported in the first moments of the trailer. Check it below, Liz shows up at the 40 second mark:
Assuming that Harrier is in full costume in the trailer, that seems to be the only costume that matches based on what we’ve seen so far. It appears that she wears different costumes in later scenes at school and on the ferry, so I’d guess that Harrier is reshooting some of the first school scenes in the film. We still don’t know where exactly the reshoots are taking place however.
What scenes do you think are being reshot? Have any mind blowing theories? Sound off in the comments below!
