One of the ritual joys of watching an MCU movie is waiting for the Stan Lee cameo. Thus far he has appeared in most of the Marvel films released (including those outside of the MCU). Within the 14 interconnected movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has popped up in every single one. His picture has also appeared in posters in every Netflix show. Now there is some good evidence that he has filmed yet another appearance for Avengers: Infinity War.

While there is no official word that this set visit was for a cameo, it also is unlikely that Lee traveled all the way to Scotland (assuming this is a recent photo) just to hang out. Recently Lee has had to cancel some convention appearances for health reasons. The cameos appear to be a major priority for Lee and Marvel Studios. Previously they had James Gunn film four cameos at the same time, presumably for Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok. If that is correct then a Black Panther appearance is still up in the air.

In a way, it is no surprise that Lee is making it into the biggest film in Marvel’s history. On the other hand, it’s reassuring to fans that this is in the can. At the risk of being morbid, Stan Lee likely will not live forever, though it feels possible as long as he keeps going strong at an advanced age. At 94 years old Lee is a living legend, but some day the cameos will end. Each new one is one more treasure for fans to cherish. Given the way Marvel has been planning ahead, he may have done his bit for Avengers 4 as well, which is shooting simultaneously with its predecessor.

Avengers: Infinity War comes to theaters next May with Avengers 4 releasing a year later.
