When Agent Carter initially premiered on ABC back in 2015, the series debuted to decent ratings, which at the time were much higher than the 3-4 million viewers Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was continuing to pull in on a weekly basis. Unfortunately, as the show went on, however, viewership continued to decline, settling around the same numbers as S.H.I.E.L.D., which will not unimpressive, was far from what many had hoped. Still, the show was which originally ordered as a mini-series, had performed okay in Live+7 ratings and managed to secure an order for season two.
Fast forward to this year. The show returned for its highly anticipated season two, but somehow, it managed to debut to ratings below even those of S.H.I.E.L.D., pulling in 3 million live viewers during the season premiere and secured an unimpressive 1.0 in the key demo rating. The show – which had undergone massive changes leading into season two – continued to see a massive dip in viewership as the season went on, leading to the show ending at 2.35 million live viewers and a terrible 0.7 key demo rating. Still, while it had become obvious that the show would be lucky to see a third season, many (myself included) hoped that somehow, the show would get the chance to tie up loose ends from season two. (I even went on to suggest why Netflix made sense for a potential new home for the series.) And then Haley Atwell ended up being cast in a new ABC pilot, making it seem even more unlikely that Agent Carter would be renewed.
Since then, things have been rather quiet. There was a rumor that the show would get a season three, but nothing ever actually became of that, and ABC has chosen to remain mum, even when renewing Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a season four earlier this year. Now, it appears as though the fate of Agent Carter will finally be revealed in the next day or two. Tara Butters, one of the showrunners for Agent Carter, took to Twitter today to let fans know a decision should be coming shortly.

With ABC set to take the stage for their upfronts on Tuesday, we should know for sure by tomorrow night whether or not Agent Carter will return for a season three. (The fate of Marvel’s Most Wanted should also be revealed!) Here’s to hoping that, by some miracle, the show is given a season three to tie-up season two’s story.
